France 2020 - Acorn Adventures Opal Coast

For our 105th Birthday next year we are once again headed to France to the Acorn Adventures site in Ardres, just a short drive outside of Calais.

A whole week of land and water activities to keep us occupied, including High Ropes and Leap of Faith, Archery, String trails, Fencing, Paddle Boarding, Canoeing, Kayaking and Raft Building and much more.

Letters were handed out last week - June 11th - as the next instalment towards the trip is due to Acorn.

we are planning on doing some fundraising soon to reduce the overall cost of the trip - so watch this space - however, if anyone has any ideas or opportunities for fundraising, could they please talk to any leader at a meeting and let us know.

24th World Scout Jamboree - USA

It won't be long until Gemma is off to a once in a lifetime experience at the 24th World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia. A tented city bigger than Newcastle and some of it's outskirts awaits. After a tough selection process, where the Group had 4 Scouts attend, Gemma was picked to attend. Good luck and have fun!!

More information on WSJ24 can be found here.

District Camp 2019

Although we didn't have any Scouts in attendance at District Camp, as it was only a couple of weeks after Camp Ary. Mick Barber was there as part of the organising committee. The weekend was a very wet and soggy one, until the Sunday when the sun came out. Some activities had to be scrapped due to the river becoming far too dangerous, as it rose approximately 2 foot overnight on the Friday. Mick was the judge of the District Duke of Wellington competition - congratulations to the 1st Wallsend for winning.

Camp 'Ary 4

The last May Bank Holiday weekend saw the Cubs and Scouts once again at Middle Brunton, Wall, near Hexham. We spent the weekend working towards various badges and Challenge Awards - pioneer, camp cook, outdoor challenge. Unfortunately the weather took a turn for the worse, after putting the tents up in glorious sunshine that soon changed to strong winds and plenty of rain. That didn't dampen our spirits any as we carried on with our activities. At least until Saturday night when due to a very strong gust of wind both of the event shelters we use for eating in, decided to completely flip over. destroying poles in the process. Sunday morning we went to work trying to see if we could salvage at least one event shelter from the carnage, which we did manage to. the weather cleared by lunchtime, so we headed off on a walk up to Lookwide, the site of the first ever official Scout camp, which is near Humshaugh. There is a cairn amongst the trees on a rocky outcrop, overlooking the actual site of the camp, where the Cubs, Scouts and Leaders re-affirmed their Scout Promise.

Beetle Drive & AGM

A massive Thank You to everyone that turned up to our Beetle Drive evening. Hopefully everyone had a great time. Thank you to Michael Dale for organising  the evening.

On March 15th-17th 2019 the Cubs and Scouts were up at Powburn for their regular March weekend. The weekend saw the Cubs and Scouts learning spy-craft along with weapons training, observation and how to build a disguise. We also had a bit of snow on the Saturday morning, so everyone spent a bit of time out building undercover operatives and having a snowball fight. We also had to have our Saturday night campfire inside as it was extremely cold outside.
